Weekly Activities: Fish/Fire Fighters
November 13-17, 2023

Here are samples of activities that your child may be participating in this week.

Monday– Firefighters

How you can participate: Talk about fire safety at home. Reassure your child that you have a plan, should a fire occur.

Books – Fire, Fire Said Mr. McQuire
Phonics – “F says f,f,f,f,f,f fish…to swim like me, don’t you wish”
Art – Build a fire truck
Gross Motor – Fire safety/put out the fire
Music – Firefighters

Tuesday – Letter F-Fishy, Fishy, in the Brook

How you can participate: On the way to school ask your child what kind of fish live in the Ocean. You may be surprised at how much they know!

Books – 3 Little fish and the Fish & Firefighters Big Bad Shark
Action – Row, Row, Row your boat
Art – Dot art a Rainbow Fish (using celery)
Math – Sorting & Graphing Fish
Music – Ready, Set, Go

Wednesday- Five Little Fish Swimming in the Sea

How you can participate: Take a trip to your local pet shop to check out all the fish in the tanks.  Count them, name the colors too!

Books – 10 Little Fish
Action – Box of “F” things (feather, fork, fish)
Art – Star Fish
Science – What will sink/float?
Music – Swimming in the Sea

Thursday– Safety: Stop, Drop and Roll

How you can participate: Practice stop, drop and roll with your child.

Books – Rainbow Fish (Amazon)
Phonics – “F says f,f,f,f,f,f fish…to swim like me, don’t you wish”
Art – Fire Hats
Safety Skills – Practice Stop, Drop, & Roll
Music – 911

Friday– Opposites: Soft/Hard

How you can participate: Explore things wherever you are to label them as soft or hard. Make a sensory box to explore.  Have your child their eyes reach in and tell you if the object is soft or hard.

Books – Soft and Hard: An Animal Opposites Book (Amazon)

Art – Spicy Necklaces
Phonics – “E says e,e,e,e, elephant… lift me up, I say you can’t!”
Critical Thinking – What’s hard/What’s soft?
Music – Animal Action

  • Fish have gills that extract oxygen from the water around them.
  • There are over 30000 known species of fish.
  • Some flatfish use camouflage to hide on the ocean floor.
  • Tuna can swim at speeds of up to 70 kph (43 mph).
