Child Care Q&A
Frequently Asked Questions
About Preschool & Child Care
Q. I’m concerned that my child is going to be upset and cry when I drop them off. How can I avoid that?
A. It’s completely normal for children to feel anxious about starting preschool. Many parents share this concern. Our experienced teachers are trained to create a warm and welcoming environment that helps children feel secure.
To ease the transition, try to maintain a positive and confident attitude during drop-off. A quick, loving goodbye can often be less upsetting than a prolonged departure. We understand that saying goodbye can be difficult, but remember, your child is more likely to feel secure if you appear calm and reassuring.
Our staff will provide lots of comfort and attention as you leave. We’ll engage your child in activities, and let them know you’ll be back to pick them up soon. We’ll also keep you updated on how your child is adjusting.
If you have any specific concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to your child’s teacher. We’re here to support you and your child every step of the way.
Additional Tips:
- Practice goodbyes: Gradually increase the time you spend away from your child in familiar settings to help them build independence.
- Create a morning routine: A consistent routine can provide a sense of security.
- Bring a comfort item: A favorite toy or blanket can be comforting for some children.
- Positive reinforcement: Praise your child for their bravery and resilience.
Q. My child has speech delays. How do you help with that?
A. We understand that speech delays can be a concern for parents, and we’re committed to supporting children with their language development. Our preschool environment is designed to foster communication and language growth in all children.
Our teachers are trained to identify potential speech delays and work closely with parents. We incorporate a variety of language-rich activities into our daily routine, such as storytime, singing, and role-playing. Our mixed-age classrooms also provide opportunities for children to learn from and interact with peers of different ages, which can accelerate language development.
Q. My child is rambunctious and I’m concerned about them being ready for kindergarten. How will you prepare my child?
A. Active, curious children have a strong foundation for success in school. Our preschool program is designed to channel their energy into positive and productive learning experiences.
We offer a variety of activities that encourage physical activity, problem-solving, and social skills. Our teachers use engaging, hands-on approaches to introduce academic concepts, making learning fun and exciting. Through play-based learning, we help children develop self-regulation, focus, and the ability to follow directions, which are essential skills for kindergarten readiness.
Our goal is to help your child build confidence and a love of learning that will carry them through their school years.
Q. I’m concerned about how my child is going to be treated. How do you assure that my child will be treated kindly and as an individual?
A. We understand that entrusting your child’s care to others can be challenging. Our top priority is creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels valued and respected.
Our teachers are carefully selected for their passion for early childhood education and their ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children. We provide ongoing professional development to ensure that our staff is equipped with the latest best practices in child care.
We believe in open communication and encourage parents to share their concerns and feedback.
Q. My child is not yet potty trained. How will you help me train them?
A. We understand that potty training is a significant milestone, and every child develops at their own pace. Our approach is to support both you and your child throughout this process.
We offer a nurturing environment where children feel comfortable exploring and learning new skills. Our teachers are trained to recognize potty training readiness signs and offer gentle encouragement. We provide opportunities for children to practice using the potty in a supportive and positive manner.
We work closely with parents to create a consistent potty training plan. We can offer tips and strategies to help you at home, and we’ll keep you updated on your child’s progress at preschool.
Q. My child has food allergies. What precautions do you take?
A. We understand that managing food allergies can be a significant concern for parents, and we take this responsibility very seriously. We have a strict allergy management protocol in place to ensure the safety of all children.
Our staff receives comprehensive training on food allergy awareness and management. We maintain detailed allergy information for each child, including a list of allergens and any necessary emergency procedures.
Children with severe allergies are closely monitored, and we work closely with parents to develop individualized care plans. We also require parents to provide any necessary medications, such as an EpiPen, and ensure that our staff is trained in its proper use.
Q. My child doesn’t nap. How will that be handled?
A. We understand that sleep patterns vary from child to child. While we offer a quiet time after lunch for all children, we respect individual needs. If your child doesn’t nap at home, they’re welcome to rest or engage in quiet activities during this time.
Our program includes a balance of active and calm activities throughout the day to ensure children are well-rested and ready to learn. We find that many children who don’t nap at home often benefit from the quiet time to recharge their batteries before afternoon activities.
We’ll work closely with you to determine the best approach for your child and monitor their energy levels throughout the day.
Q. How do you approach discipline?
A. Our discipline approach focuses on building positive behavior and self-regulation. Creating a supportive and nurturing environment where children feel safe to explore and learn is our top priority.
We use positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors and redirect unwanted behaviors. Your child needs a discipline strategy that highlights individual needs and development. Our teachers are trained in age-appropriate guidance techniques, such as:
- Positive redirection: Helping children focus their energy on appropriate activities.
- Natural consequences: Allowing children to experience the results of their actions.
- Problem-solving: Teaching children to identify problems and find solutions.
- Conflict resolution: Teaching children how to negotiate
We believe that open communication with parents is essential to maintaining consistency between home and school. We work collaboratively to support children’s social and emotional development.
Q. I want my child to learn, but I also want them to have fun. Is your program play-based or academic?
A. Learning must be an enjoyable experience, and our program strikes a balance between structured learning and free exploration.
Our curriculum incorporates both teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. During structured learning times, our experienced teachers introduce foundational concepts in math, science, literacy, and social-emotional development through engaging and interactive lessons.
However, we understand the importance of play in fostering creativity, problem-solving, and social skills. We provide ample opportunities for children to explore their interests, collaborate with peers, and build confidence through imaginative play.
By combining structured learning with free play, we create a well-rounded environment that supports children’s holistic development and prepares them for future success.
